The closest airport is Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia, commonly called Liberia Airport or LIR.

The drive from Liberia Airport to Tamarindo or Playa Grande is generally around one hour and fifteen minutes.

San José International Airport is another option, but it is considerably farther from the wedding area.

We are still finalizing the schedule, but we expect to host a welcome BBQ in Playa Grande the evening of the 5th for those in town.

Costa Rica is happy to have you—they just want to make sure you plan to leave at some point! Immigration at Liberia Airport is usually very straightforward, but they may ask to see your return or onward flight information and the name or address of where you’re staying.

Nope! U.S. dollars and credit cards are widely accepted throughout the area. ATMs also dispense both Costa Rican colones and U.S. dollars, so you can easily grab local currency if needed.

November and December are generally warm in Guanacaste. Daytime temperatures are typically hot, with somewhat cooler temperatures after sunset.

November is a transitional month between the rainy and dry seasons, so brief rain is still possible.

Playa Grande is one of the best surf spots in Costa Rica. Surf is often best around two hours before and after high tide, depending on conditions.

The beach can also produce strong rip currents, so please be mindful when swimming.

Renting a car is easy, and driving around Costa Rica is generally straightforward—we even let Mike drive! A car can be helpful if you plan to explore beyond Playa Grande or are staying outside the center of town.

Just be mindful not to leave bags, phones or other valuables visible in the vehicle.
